As the first woman Director of Florida’s State Parks, the inaugural female and 16th overall Director of the National Park Service, and the first chairwoman of the Alliance for Florida’s National Parks, trailblazer Fran Mainella was recently honored with two Lifetime Achievement Awards. The first was presented by the National Park Service at Big Cypress National Preserve, recognizes her service to public lands at both state and federal levels. The second award, given at the Alliance for Florida’s National Parks’ 2024 Wine & Wildlife event, was for her dedication to protecting and preserving Florida's National Parks.
